5 KCMO Dog-Friendly Destinations

Don’t leave your four-legged friend at home now that it’s warming up! Here are 5 local spots that you and your furry friend can enjoy.

Warmer temperatures are finally here to stay in KCMO, and you know what that means: patio season! At Apex we’re proud to call ourselves pet-friendly and love it when our four-legged residents visit us in the office. Thankfully Kansas City also loves dogs, which means you don’t have to leave your furry family member at home when you go out this spring and summer!

1.       Kaldi’s Coffee

Do you take your dog to work? Or maybe you work from home and like to start the day with a nice walk in the city. Perhaps you’re wanting to meet a friend for coffee downtown. In any case, thanks to the patio at Kaldi’s Coffee you don’t have to leave your dog behind while you grab some caffeine. When Kaldi’s Coffee opened in 1994 they dedicated themselves to offering a memorable coffee experience through sustainable business practices, and since then they’ve expanded to several Missouri locations as well as a few in the Atlanta area.

2.       Mud Pie

It would make sense that a vegan bakery is animal-friendly, and at Mud Pie you don’t have to worry about harming any animals while you enjoy a sweet treat or a cup of joe with your pooch on the patio. Regardless of if you practice a vegan lifestyle, you’re sure to find something your taste buds will enjoy. They even have gluten-free items! Bakery items vary daily, so you can stop in regularly and try something new each time, or order ahead if you want to make sure your favorite cupcakes are available.

3.       Char Bar

Craving some delicious Kansas City BBQ? Thanks to their spacious beer garden and patio, you can bring man’s best friend to the self-proclaimed “House of Meat” at Char Bar on Pennsylvania. The Beer Garden also has a host of outdoor games like croquet, bocce ball, ping pong, and cornhole. With an expansive menu of lunch and dinner, as well as weekend brunch, Char Bar is the perfect place to meet up with friends and have a good time.

4.       Happy Gillis

Branded as a café and hangout, you know you can take your time and enjoy the day at Happy Gillis. As with most breakfast and lunch restaurants, it’s even better on the patio that accepts well-behaved dogs, so your pooch can enjoy brunch too! From classic dishes like biscuits and gravy and smoked salmon, to seasonal dishes made with fresh fruit and upscale fare like tri-tip steak sandwiches, you’re sure to start your day off right at Happy Gillis. They also have several beers on tap, delicious cocktails, and bottomless coffee, so let your furry friend know you’ll be staying a while!

5.       West Terrace Dog Park

KCMO is known for its parks, and even at our downtown location, we’re no more than a short walk away from several green spaces. Case in point, the West Terrace Dog Park that’s just a short walk away from Apex. Let your furbaby run full steam and get out all the zoomies at this off-leash dog park open to members 5 AM to 10 PM daily. The fully-enclosed, 1.5-acre park includes benches and a pavilion overlooking the West Bottoms and the Missouri River for humans to enjoy while the dogs run around and socialize.
